Penrith's On-Call Plumbing Team

Ask anyone in Sydney and Panthers Stadium and the Nepean River come up fast, the town sitting at the western edge of the Cumberland Plain. Newer apartment towers near the station sit against a much older backdrop of post-war and 1960s-80s brick-veneer and fibro streets.

That older stock is largely built on concrete slabs, and the clay underneath here swells and shrinks enough with the seasons to genuinely move a slab over time.

A slab that moves takes the plumbing set into it along for the ride, and that's the root cause behind a fair share of the leaks and cracked joints we're called out for.

High Street and Mulgoa Road both run through blocks where this pattern shows up regularly. Storage hot water units original to these older homes are also well past the point where a sudden failure would surprise us, and an overnight breakdown here is a callout we know on sight.

Streets closer to the river carry an extra wrinkle too: parts of the floodplain sit low enough that a heavy rain event puts more pressure on drainage than the higher ground further back from the water. The pattern we're seeing lately leans toward the older detached stock rather than the newer apartments, which makes sense given the age gap between the two. A unit built in the last decade simply hasn't had time to develop the same fatigue in its plumbing that a 1970s house has.

Close enough to Kingswood to be part of our regular run rather than a special trip out, this is a suburb whose mix of older slab homes and newer riverside units we know well.
